We set off for Vienna. On the way we stopped outside Salzburg at a village, called Mondsee, where the church that was used in the Sound of music wedding is located. Lunch at a road side service centre then on to Melk where we had a cruise down the Danube river through the Wachau valley. We left the cruise at Durmstein a medieval town where Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned.
We had dinner at a hungarian restaurant with Gypsies singing. Great for Cathy's birthday
Next day we visited Schonbrunn Palace. This was actually just the royal families summer palace, not bad for a holiday house.
The afternoon was free time for us or an optional tour for some.
We found the Musicverein where Lizz performed with the Wesley Choir and won the competition.
We had a tour of the building to see all the rooms especially the Golden Hall where they performed.
We had dinner in a traditional Austrian Gasthof then later in the evening we actually went to a concert in the Musicverein as part of our trip (actually an optional excursion). Fantastic, they played all the favourite song from various operas. They had a soprano and baritone perform the arias and ballet dancers for the waltzes.
